Marketing Communications Specialist
Texas Biomedical Research Institute, located in San Antonio, Texas, is searching for an experienced Marketing Communications Specialist to join our team of dedicated professionals, aiming to be the global leader in infectious disease research. The Marketing Communications Specialist develops, plans and implements marketing strategies to key stakeholders for Texas Biomed, including donors, business partners and staff. This position develops strategy for and implements effective marketing initiatives, including online, social media, email, event, direct, and content marketing, as well as development of outreach programs and events. The aim is to engage these stakeholders in dialogues that inform and further the strategic mission of Texas Biomed.
The Marketing Communications Specialist works closely with VP for Communications to 1) strengthen external and internal relationships with donors, business partners and team members through specific marketing initiatives; 2) create a strong community engagement plan and execute activities and events that will further engage our stakeholders in bioscience and with Texas Biomed; 3) promote the Texas Biomed brand. These activities and events are primarily geared at adult populations but could include student outreach in partnership with the Education Department at Texas Biomed.
Duties and responsibilities include keeping track of global scientific issues, writing and design of marketing content for a variety of stakeholders, monitoring program progress and developing and executing on annual marketing outreach plans.
- Develop and implement creative strategies for scientific outreach and brand awareness marketing campaigns in digital and traditional media
- Plan and create newsletters, brochures, flyers, blogs, social media posts and other written marketing material
- Plan, coordinate, and provide special event coordination for community meetings, events, and schools
- Stay current on trends and research in the areas of bioscience, animals in research, infectious diseases and the general San Antonio community
- Develop and maintain relationships and collaborations with community members and local organizations – maintain up to date list of community organizations for which Texas Biomed should be involved
- Recruit, train and coordinate science volunteers for a variety of outreach tasks
- Attend and participate in internal and external meetings and trainings as required
- Attend community round tables and task forces as requested
- Create and utilize metrics and data collection tools
- Flexibility with hours is required; able to work occasional nights and weekends
- Other duties as assigned
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE/SKILLS: Required: Bachelor’s Degree in marketing, public relations and/or bioscience OR five or more years related experience in a job where work was equivalent to a Bachelor’s Degree. Five or more years of job-specific experience. This position requires strong understanding of science, most specifically biology, microbiology and virology, as well as strong written and verbal communication, experience in public presentation and a creative approach to problem-solving.
Preferred: Eight or more years of job related experience. A background in scientific marketing or PR.

Other: This is a full-time salaried (exempt) position. Texas Biomed business hours are Mondays through Fridays 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Texas Biomed is committed to a drug-free workplace. Pre-employment drug screen is required.
