Dear Colleagues: Participate in a survey on science communication in Biology

Published

on

Dear colleagues,

We are seeking instructors to participate in survey on science communication in undergraduate Biology. Science communication skills are essential for students to respond to complex societal challenges. Undergraduates are uniquely poised to reach both science and non-science audiences, but there has been little progress towards helping students to develop as effective science communicators.

We are working in a multi-institutional, interdisciplinary collaboration to identify and build science communication learning objectives for use in undergraduate biology courses. We are seeking biology instructors who have taught a science communication course or integrated a science communication activity into an existing biology course. We are particularly interested in courses that have been taught within the last two years.

The survey should take ~15 minutes to complete and instructors who agree to participate will be entered into a drawing to win one of five $50 prepaid cards. If you are interested in participating as an instructor in this study, you can access the survey here:

This study was reviewed by the IRB (protocol FY26-298) and determined to be Exempt.

I am a Discipline-based Education Researcher, which means that my scholarship involves the study of how students learn, and how we develop educational tools and practices that support learning. My research applies a critical lens to teaching and learning in STEM, with the goal of creating more equitable learning environments that better support diverse learners. I am particularly interested in how we can help students gain authentic research experiences, while also supporting their sociocultural needs.
