Since 2013, the SEE Science Center has hosted “Science on Tap,” a series of free, informal discussions with local scientists and experts, covering every topic from climate change to the science of sleep.

Seven months out of the year, science lovers and beer enthusiasts collide at Stark Brewing Company in Manchester, NH for a night of science communication and curiosity.

Each event features a panel of two to four subject-matter experts who present their research on a set topic. After an informal introduction, the floor opens for a Q&A session, allowing panelists and attendees to ask questions, share opinions, and delve deeper into the topic at hand. This open format encourages discussion and fosters a sense of community where science is accessible to everyone, regardless of their background or expertise.

The public education series has hosted more than 80 discussions with more than 200 unique panelists to date.

“It has been great to bring together experts and the public and provide a place where people can learn about important topics informally, without prerequisite, cost or commitment”, Adele Maurier of the SEE Science Center told the Civic Science Times. “Through ‘Science on Tap,’ the SEE Science Center engages their community in discussion and discovery of a more nuanced understanding of our world.”

On January 14, 2025, Stark Brewing Company will host “Science on Tap: Extinction Here and There,” a discussion on the impact of extinction of species both known and unknown. Panelists will include Erin Sigel, PhD, Collection Manager, The Hodgdon Herbarium Department of Biological Sciences, University of New Hampshire and István Mikó PhD,  Collection Manager, Department of Biological Science, University of New Hampshire.
