The Media & Communications Office at Cell Press offers multiple internships each year.

In 2020, the following are available:

• Graduate Internship (January-May, $18/hr) Intern selected
• Undergraduate Internship (June-August, $15/hr) – Intern selected–

About the Science Communication Internship

The program is designed to give interns the full experience of being a science communicator at a major publishing operation. Primarily, interns see how a scientific paper from the laboratory to a story in a major media outlet. In addition to assisting with science writing duties, the intern helps produce original marketing content from pitch to distribution and develop the skills to create and analyze the success of their work. Throughout the program, the intern collaborates with other business teams, including marketing, commercial sales, editorial, and production, to better understand how each department meets business goals. By the end of the intern’s time at Cell Press, they walk away with a collection of 10+ clips comprised of press releases, content marketing, and social media.

Tasks will include:

• Writing press releases about research published in Cell Press journals and acting as the press contact.
• Assisting with campaigns that publicize scientific research published in Cell Press journals
• Helping to prepare weekly social media posts for Cell Press content.
• A capstone project to be determined by the intern’s interests.

Logistics

Interns report to Senior Media & Communications Manager Joseph Caputo and are located in the Elsevier office at 50 Hampshire Street, Floor 5, Cambridge, Massachusetts. No housing or relocation assistance. A laptop is provided. The internships are 5 days a week, Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. There is a work from home option on Wednesdays. Start and end dates are flexible in most cases.

No permanent position is available at the end of the internship, although candidates will be considered for available positions/freelancing opportunities should they apply and performance/circumstances warrant it.
